GeekVape Coils and Pods — Which One Does Your Kit Take?

GeekVape make some of the toughest kits on the market — the Aegis range is the one people buy after dropping something else on a driveway. What they don't make is an obvious naming system for the spare parts.

If you own a GeekVape and you're not certain what to reorder, this is the guide. Work out which of the three groups your device falls into, and everything else follows.

The three families

B Series coils — these are the mesh coils for the Aegis Boost, Boost Plus, Boost Pro and the Z-series pod tanks. If your device has a removable pod with a coil that pushes into the base, it's almost certainly B Series. Common resistances are 0.2Ω, 0.3Ω, 0.4Ω and 0.6Ω.

P Series coils — these came in with the Aegis Boost Pro 2, Aegis Hero 2 and several newer kits. They look similar to B Series at a glance and they do not interchange. Check the printing on the coil body: it will say P Series.

Q pod cartridges — used by the Sonder Q, Sonder Q2, Wenax Q and related pod kits. Here the coil is built into the cartridge, so you replace the whole pod rather than a coil. There's a standard version, a side-fill version, and a Q XL for the larger-capacity kits.

Get that identification right and the rest of this guide is straightforward. Get it wrong and you've bought a five-pack you can't use.

How to identify yours in under a minute

1. Take the pod out. If a coil pulls out of the bottom of the pod, you need coils. If it doesn't, you need pods.

2. Read the old coil. The resistance and the series name are printed on the metal body. This is the single most reliable check.

3. Check the fill port. Side-fill and bottom-fill Q cartridges are different parts, and it's the mistake people make most often when reordering.

4. If in doubt, bring it in. Genuinely — it takes us seconds and saves you a wasted order.

Which resistance to buy

Whichever family you're in, the resistance decides the experience far more than the brand does:

• 0.6Ω and above — tighter, cooler, mouth-to-lung. Best for nic salts at 10mg or 20mg, and the longest-lasting option. This is the one for anyone who's recently switched from cigarettes.

• 0.4Ω — the middle ground. Slightly airier, a bit warmer, works with 50/50 liquid or a light shortfill.

• 0.3Ω and 0.2Ω — direct-to-lung. More vapour, more warmth, considerably more liquid used. High-VG shortfill at 3mg only.

If you're not sure, 0.6Ω is the safe buy for a pod kit and 0.4Ω for a Boost-style device. Understanding coil resistance explains what the ohm number is actually doing.

Getting a proper lifespan out of them

GeekVape mesh is durable, but it follows the same rules as everything else:

1. Prime it. Liquid into every cotton port, fit, fill, wait five minutes before the first draw. See how to prime a coil.

2. Run the lower half of the wattage range. On a variable-wattage Aegis this is easy and it roughly doubles coil life.

3. Don't vape it dry. Refill at a quarter rather than the last few drops.

4. Watch the sweeteners. Heavily sweetened liquids gunk mesh faster than anything else on the shelf.

Expect one to two weeks from a coil, and one to two weeks from a Q cartridge, depending on how much you vape. How long a coil lasts and how long pods last cover the warning signs.

Frequently asked questions

Will B Series coils fit a Boost Pro 2? No — the Pro 2 uses P Series. The two are close enough in appearance to catch people out, so check the printing.

Are Aegis Boost pods and coils sold separately? Yes. The pod is the plastic reservoir; the coil pushes into it. You'll replace coils often and pods rarely — usually only when the pod cracks or the seal starts leaking.

Why is my Aegis leaking after a coil change? Nearly always an o-ring that hasn't seated, or a coil that isn't pushed fully home. Take it apart, dry it, reseat it firmly. How to stop your vape leaking has the full checklist.

Can I use nic salts in a 0.2Ω coil? You can, but you shouldn't — high nicotine at high power is harsh and wasteful. Keep salts to 0.6Ω and above.

Q or Q XL? Q XL cartridges hold more liquid and fit the larger Sonder kits. Check the capacity printed on your existing pod.
