Which Uwell Caliburn Pod Do I Need?

Buying the wrong Caliburn pod is the most common thing we put right at the counter, and it is never the customer's fault. Uwell have used the same name across several platforms, the boxes look alike, and the difference is a word most people have no reason to have learned.

Here is how to get it right in about ten seconds.

Start with the device, not the pod

There are two pod platforms that matter.

Caliburn A2 / AK2 pods fit the A-series: A2, AK2, A3, A3S. Available in 0.9Ω and 1.2Ω. This is its own platform — nothing from the G-series fits, and nothing from here fits a G-series kit.

Caliburn G3 pods and GPP cartridges cover the G-series: G3, G3 Pro, G4, G4 Pro Koko, G5, G5 Lite. Both come in 0.4Ω, 0.6Ω, 0.9Ω and 1.2Ω.

The useful part: the newer G-series kits — the G4 Pro Koko and the G5 Lite — take both GPP cartridges and G3 pods. So if you are upgrading within the G-series, the pods in your drawer still work.

If you are not sure which device you have, the coil finder will tell you from the name on the kit, or bring it into either Northampton shop.

Which resistance

Once you know the pod, the number is the bit that changes how it vapes.

• 1.2Ω — the tightest, coolest draw. Best with 20mg nic salts and the closest to a cigarette. Easiest on battery.

• 0.9Ω — still mouth-to-lung, a little warmer and a little more vapour. A good default on salts.

• 0.6Ω — the middle ground. Warmer, more open, works on 10mg salts or a 50/50 freebase.

• 0.4Ω — the loosest and warmest, best suited to lower-strength liquid and a restricted direct-to-lung draw. Hardest on battery and gets through liquid fastest.

The rule of thumb: higher ohms for higher nicotine. If you are on 20mg salts and vaping a 0.4Ω, it will be harsh and you will get through both liquid and battery quickly.

How long should a pod last?

One to two weeks for most people. It is done when the flavour drops off or it starts to taste burnt — not when a certain number of days have passed.

Sweeter liquids kill a pod fastest. Anything with a heavy dessert, custard or sweetener profile will caramelise on the coil and dull the flavour well before the coil itself is worn out. If you run those, expect the shorter end of that range.

If a new pod tastes burnt straight away

It has not been primed. A dry wick scorches on the first draw and never recovers.

1. Drip a couple of drops of liquid directly onto the exposed wick holes.

2. Fill the pod.

3. Leave it standing for five minutes.

4. Take two or three draws without firing, if your device has a button.

Five minutes of patience saves a pod. It is the single most useful habit to get into, and it is the reason we always tell people to fill a fresh pod before they leave the shop rather than in the car.
