Aspire Coil Guide — Nautilus, Cleito, PockeX and BP Explained

Aspire have been making vape hardware for well over a decade, and the Nautilus is one of the longest-running tanks in the industry. The downside of that history is a coil catalogue with a lot of similar-sounding names — BVC, Nautilus X, Cleito, Tigon, PockeX — and they don't interchange.

Here's how to work out which one you need.

Identify your tank first

Every Aspire coil is built for a specific tank family. Before ordering, confirm which tank you own — it's usually printed around the base or on the glass.

Nautilus (Nautilus, Nautilus 2, Nautilus 2S, Nautilus Mini) — takes BVC coils
Nautilus X / XS — takes Nautilus X coils, which are not the same as BVC
Cleito (Cleito, Cleito 120, Cleito EXO) — takes Cleito coils, and the 120 has its own version
PockeX — takes PockeX coils only
Tigon — takes Tigon coils
Atlantis / Atlantis SE — takes Atlantis coils
BP series (BP60, BP80) — takes BP coils
Breeze — takes Breeze pod coils

The most common mix-up by a distance is Nautilus BVC versus Nautilus X. Both say "Nautilus" on the packet and they are completely different fittings. Check which one your tank takes before ordering.

The resistances we stock

Within each family you'll usually get a choice of resistance, and it changes the vape considerably:

Nautilus BVC 1.8Ω — the classic tight MTL coil. Best for high-nicotine liquids and anyone who's recently switched from cigarettes.
Nautilus BVC 0.7Ω Mesh — mesh version, warmer and more flavourful with a slightly looser draw.
Nautilus BVC 0.4Ω — sub-ohm, more vapour, wants lower nicotine and higher VG.
Nautilus 1.6Ω — a middle-ground MTL option.
Nautilus X 1.8Ω — tight MTL for the X and XS tanks.
Tigon 1.2Ω — restricted MTL, a good all-rounder.
Cleito 0.4Ω — sub-ohm for the original Cleito.
Cleito 120 Mesh — for the higher-powered Cleito 120.
Breeze pod coils 0.6Ω — for the Breeze pod system.
Atlantis SE, BP and AF coils for those respective devices.

As a rule of thumb: above 1.0Ω means a tighter, cigarette-like draw suited to nic salts, and below 1.0Ω means more vapour, an airier draw and lower nicotine. Our explainer on coil resistance and ohms covers this in full.

Why Aspire coils are worth getting right

The Nautilus in particular has a reputation for being one of the best MTL tanks ever made, and a lot of that comes down to the coil. Fitted correctly with a sensible liquid, a Nautilus BVC will run for two to three weeks — among the longest-lasting coils you'll find.

Get it wrong — a sub-ohm coil with 20mg salts, or a mesh coil run dry — and the same tank will disappoint. The hardware isn't the variable; the pairing is.

Fitting and priming

Aspire coils are straightforward, but the priming step matters:

Empty the tank before unscrewing anything, or you'll get liquid everywhere.
Unscrew the base and remove the old coil.
Prime the new coil — put two or three drops of e-liquid onto each of the exposed cotton ports around the side, plus a drop down the centre.
Reassemble and fill, then leave it standing for five minutes.
Take two or three gentle pulls with the device off before firing, to draw liquid fully into the wick.

Getting more life out of them

Avoid dark, heavily sweetened liquids if coil life matters to you — they gunk mesh faster than anything else.
Keep the tank topped up rather than running it near empty.
Stay within the wattage printed on the coil.
Give the wick a couple of seconds between puffs.

Frequently asked questions

Are Nautilus BVC and Nautilus X coils interchangeable? No. Different fittings entirely, despite both carrying the Nautilus name. This is the most common Aspire ordering mistake.

Which Aspire coil is best for someone who's just switched from smoking? A Nautilus BVC at 1.8Ω with a 10mg or 20mg nic salt. Tight draw, modest vapour, good nicotine delivery and long coil life.

Can I use a Cleito coil in a Nautilus? No. Separate tank families with different fittings.

How long do Aspire coils last? MTL coils like the 1.8Ω BVC often reach two to three weeks. Sub-ohm options such as the 0.4Ω typically last one to two.
