Vaporesso GTi Coil Guide — And How They Differ From GTX

If you've stood in front of a wall of Vaporesso coils holding a tank you can't identify, you are in good company. Vaporesso run two mesh coil families with almost identical names — GTX and GTi — and they do not fit each other.

This guide covers GTi: which kits take them, which resistance to buy, and how to make them last. If your device is a Luxe X or an XR, you probably want our GTX coil guide instead.

Which kits take GTi coils

GTi coils were introduced with the iTank and have since spread across Vaporesso's higher-powered line-up:

• iTank and iTank 2

• Target 200 (supplied with the iTank)

• Gen 200 / Gen Max when paired with an iTank

• Armour Max and other kits sold with an iTank

The quickest way to check is the coil itself. GTi coils are printed GTi on the body, and they sit in a wider tank base than a GTX. If your coil press-fits into a slim pod, it's GTX. If it screws into a chunky tank with a top-fill slide, it's GTi.

They are not interchangeable. The threads and the base diameter differ, and forcing one will damage the tank seal.

The resistances, and what each is for

Every GTi coil has a printed wattage range. Staying in the lower half of that range is the single biggest factor in how long it lasts.

• 0.15Ω (60–75W) — the most powerful in the range. Big vapour, warm draw, and it will drink e-liquid. High-VG shortfill at 3mg only.

• 0.2Ω (50–60W) — the popular all-rounder for direct-to-lung vaping. Strong flavour without the liquid consumption of the 0.15.

• 0.3Ω (35–45W) — cooler and more economical. A sensible first GTi coil if you're new to sub-ohm.

• 0.4Ω (30–40W) — restricted direct-to-lung. Tighter draw, less vapour, noticeably longer coil life.

• 0.5Ω (25–30W) — the tightest in the common range. This is the one to buy if you want something closer to MTL, or if you're running higher-nicotine liquid.

There is a simple rule underneath all of this: the lower the resistance, the lower your nicotine strength should be. A 0.15Ω coil with 20mg nic salt is genuinely unpleasant and worth avoiding. GTX vs GTi at a glance

• GTX — pod-kit family. Resistances from 1.2Ω down to 0.15Ω. Covers Luxe X, Luxe XR, XR Max, GTX GO, Target series. Mostly MTL and RDTL.

• GTi — tank family. Resistances from 0.5Ω down to 0.15Ω. Covers iTank-based kits. Mostly RDTL and DTL.

• GT Core — the older family for NRG and Cascade tanks. Different again.

Three families, similar names, no cross-compatibility. When you reorder, check the box rather than the shelf label.

Making GTi coils last

Sub-ohm mesh at 40–75W is hard on a coil, so the basics matter more here than they do on a pod kit:

1. Prime properly. Liquid onto every exposed cotton port, fit the coil, fill the tank, then wait a full five minutes. How to prime a coil has the detail.

2. Start 5W below the printed minimum for the first few draws, then work up.

3. Refill at a quarter full. Running a tank down to the last few millilitres is the most common cause of a burnt coil.

4. Go easy on heavily sweetened liquids. Sweeteners caramelise onto mesh faster than anything else and will halve your coil life.

5. Use the right VG. GTi coils want 70/30 high-VG shortfill. 50/50 liquid at 60W will spit and leak.

Realistically, expect one to two weeks per coil at typical use, less at 60W and above. How long a coil lasts covers the signs it's time to change.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use GTX coils in an iTank? No. Different family, different fitting. Look for GTi on the coil body.

What's the best GTi coil for flavour? The 0.2Ω is the flavour pick for most people. The 0.15Ω is warmer and louder but goes through liquid quickly.

Which GTi coil for nic salts? The 0.5Ω, at the bottom of its wattage range, and stick to 10mg rather than 20mg. If you mostly vape salts, a pod kit is a better tool than an iTank.

Why is my new GTi coil leaking? Usually liquid that's too thin (50/50 instead of 70/30), or an over-tightened tank base. Loosen, reseat, and check the o-rings are sitting flat.

How many coils in a pack? Five, in your chosen resistance.
