Uwell Caliburn Pods and Coils — A Guide to Every Model

Few things ruin a vape like that harsh, acrid burnt taste — the dreaded dry hit. The good news: it's almost always easy to explain and even easier to fix. Here's what's going on and how to stop it.
A burnt taste happens when the coil's cotton wick dries out and scorches instead of vaporising liquid. The usual culprits are:
A new coil that wasn't primed. Fit a dry coil, fire it, and the cotton burns instantly.
A worn-out coil. Coils don't last forever — after one to two weeks the wick degrades and starts to taste burnt and muted.
Vaping with low e-liquid. If the tank or pod runs low, the wick can't stay saturated.
Chain vaping. Puffing rapidly doesn't give the wick time to re-soak.
Power set too high. Running a coil above its recommended wattage burns the wick faster.
If it's a new coil: it likely wasn't primed (see below). A lightly burnt new coil sometimes recovers after resting; a badly burnt one needs replacing.
If the coil's a week or two old: it's simply worn out. Replace it — this is the most common cause by far.
If your liquid is low: top it up and let it sit a minute before vaping.
Priming means saturating the wick before first use:
Drip a few drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton of the new coil.
Fit the coil and fill the tank or pod.
Wait five to ten minutes so the wick soaks through fully.
Take a few gentle pulls without firing to draw liquid in, then start at a lower power.
This single habit prevents the vast majority of burnt hits.
Keep your pod or tank topped up — never vape it bone dry.
Don't chain vape — pause a few seconds between puffs.
Stay near the recommended wattage for your coil.
Choose the right liquid: very sweet, dark or high-VG liquids gunk coils faster. Balanced 50/50 nic salts (ideal for the MTL kits we recommend in MTL vs DTL) are kinder to coils.
Coils are consumable — expect to change them every one to two weeks. Keeping a spare pack in a drawer means a burnt hit is a two-minute fix, not a ruined day. It also keeps running costs down, as we cover in Is vaping cheaper than smoking?.
Burnt taste = a dry or worn wick. Prime new coils, keep your liquid topped up, and replace coils every week or two — do that and you'll rarely taste burnt again.
