Which Voopoo Coil or Pod Do I Need?

Voopoo run more coil platforms at once than any other brand we stock, and the names give you very little help. This is the short version: find your device, buy that part.

PnP coils — Drag X, Drag S, Drag Max, Drag E60, and the Vinci range (Vinci, Vinci X, Vinci Q, Vinci Air).

PnP and PnP X are the two that get mixed up, because the names are one letter apart and the devices are named almost identically. There is a full guide to telling them apart.

Which resistance should you pick?

The number decides how the device vapes far more than the kit does.

• 1.2Ω and 0.8Ω — tight, cool, mouth-to-lung. The cigarette-like draw. Best with 20mg nic salts, and easiest on battery.

• 0.6Ω — the middle ground. Warmer and a little more open. Good on 10mg salts or a 50/50.

• 0.3Ω and below — direct-lung. Warm, airy and a lot of vapour. For shortfills and low-strength liquid only, and it will empty a tank and a battery quickly.

The rule that saves most grief: higher ohms for higher nicotine. A 0.15Ω on 20mg salts is genuinely unpleasant and will make you think you dislike vaping.

How long should a coil last?

One to two weeks for most people. It is finished when the flavour fades or it starts to taste burnt - not after a set number of days.

Sweet liquids are what kill them. Anything heavy on dessert, custard or sweetener caramelises on the coil and dulls the flavour long before the coil is actually worn out. If you run those, expect the shorter end.

If a new coil tastes burnt immediately

It was not primed, and a dry wick scorches on the very first draw.

1. Put a couple of drops of liquid straight onto the wick openings.

2. Fill the tank or pod.

3. Leave it standing five minutes.

4. Take two or three draws without firing.

Five minutes saves a coil. It is the single most useful habit in vaping, and it is why we tell people to fill a fresh coil before they leave the shop rather than in the car.
