How to Clean Your Vape Kit (and Why It Matters)

Temple of Vape Team · July 14, 2026

A clean vape simply works better — crisper flavour, fewer leaks and a longer life for your kit. It only takes a few minutes, and doing it when you change your coil makes it a habit rather than a chore. Here's a simple routine.

Why bother cleaning it?

E-liquid residue, condensation and old flavour build up over time. Left alone, that means muddy flavour, sticky threads, blocked airflow and more leaks. A quick clean resets everything and keeps your vape tasting the way it should.

Cleaning your tank or pod (the quick weekly clean)

Do this whenever you change your coil:

  1. Empty the tank of any leftover e-liquid.

  2. Take the tank apart — unscrew the sections and remove (and set aside) the coil.

  3. Rinse the glass/plastic and metal parts under warm water until the residue is gone.

  4. Dry everything thoroughly with a tissue or kitchen roll, and leave it to air-dry so no water is left inside.

  5. Reassemble, fit a fresh coil and refill. Let a new coil soak before firing — see changing your coil.

Never run the coil itself under water — coils aren't washable and need replacing, as covered in how often should you replace your vape coil?.

Wiping down the device

The battery/mod section should never go near water. Instead, wipe it with a slightly damp cloth or a cotton bud, paying attention to the connection thread where the tank screws on — a build-up of liquid there causes poor connections and auto-firing. Keep the charging port clear of fluff too.

Keeping the airflow clear

Condensation collects in the airflow slots and the central tube, which leads to gurgling and leaks. A cotton bud around the airflow and a tissue rolled through the centre clears it in seconds. If leaks are a recurring problem, our stop your vape leaking guide has more.

Build it into your routine

The easiest approach: give the tank a rinse every time you change your coil, and a quick wipe of the device once a week. Do that and your kit stays fresh, leak-free and flavourful — and it'll last far longer too.

A clean vape is a happy vape. A few minutes now saves you a muddy, leaky one later.
