Every Vaporesso XROS Compared: Pro 2, 6 Mini, 5 Mini and the Rest

There are fourteen devices with XROS on the box, and the good news is the bit nobody tells you: they all take the same pod.

That is unusual, and it is the strongest reason to buy into this range rather than another. Whatever XROS you own, whatever you upgrade to, the pods in your drawer keep working. Nothing is stranded.

So the choice is not about compatibility. It is about size, battery and whether you want a screen.

What the names actually mean

Vaporesso use three suffixes and they are consistent:

• Nano — the smallest. Pocket-first, smallest battery, charge it nightly.

• Mini — the middle. Noticeably smaller than the full-size body, still a full day for most people.

• Pro — the biggest battery and, on the recent ones, a screen.

No suffix at all — plain XROS, XROS 2, XROS 3 — means the standard full-size body of that generation.

The number is the generation. Higher is newer, and the practical gains have been battery and airflow rather than anything dramatic.

• XROS Pro — the big-battery one, and the one to buy if you resent charging

• XROS Pro 2 — the newer Pro

• XROS 6 Mini — the newest Mini, and our usual recommendation

• XROS 5 Mini — the previous Mini, and usually a little cheaper

All four take the same XROS pods.

Which one should you get

If you have just stopped smoking, take a Mini. It is the size that gets carried rather than left on a worktop, and the tighter pods give the cigarette-like draw that makes switching work. The 6 Mini is the one we hand over most often.

If you charge your phone twice a day and hate it, take a Pro. The larger battery is the whole point, and it is a real difference rather than a spec-sheet one.

If you are buying a second device for going out, take whichever Mini is cheaper. Since the pods are shared, a second XROS costs you nothing in spares - which is a genuinely good reason to own two.

If you want the smallest possible thing, look for a Nano. We do not always keep them, so ring ahead.

Pods and resistances

Every XROS takes the same pod, in 0.4Ω, 0.6Ω, 0.8Ω, 1.0Ω and 1.2Ω.

The rule of thumb: higher ohms for higher nicotine. A 1.0Ω or 1.2Ω on 20mg salts gives the tight, cool draw most switchers want. The 0.4Ω is the loosest and warmest, better on 10mg or a 50/50, and it will get through both liquid and battery faster.

One thing worth knowing before you buy

XROS pods do not fit the Luxe X range, and Luxe X pods do not fit an XROS. They are two separate platforms from the same brand and they look similar on a shelf. If you are choosing between the two ranges, we wrote a guide to picking between them, and there is a Luxe X range guide too.
